What to Expect When You Text
Reaching out is the hardest part. Here's exactly what happens after you send that first message.
Step 1 · Text 855-458-0886
Start however feels right. Any of these work:
"I need help"
"I think I'm pregnant"
"I need some information"
I'm pregnant and I'm not sure what to do"
or just "hi"
Step 2 · What happens next depends on when you text
During live hours
Mon–Thu 11am–8pm · Fri–Sat 11am–5pm CT
You'll get a reply, and they'll tell you the name of the person you're texting with and how you can start or stop the conversation at any time.
They'll ask more about what kind of help you're looking for, whether that's pregnancy resources or information on contraception.
If they already know the answer, they'll share it right away. If not, they'll research it and work with you to figure it out, sometimes in one shift, sometimes over a follow-up.
Since live hours are limited, the conversation can continue across multiple live sessions over several days, until you feel like you have everything you need.
Outside live hours
Nights, early mornings, off days.
You'll get a message letting you know the days and hours texts are answered.
In the meantime, they'll send you a few links to helpful information.
When the next live shift starts, a volunteer will see that you texted and will answer during their shift
